Planmed
Arteknon and Planmed, a manufacturer of imaging equipment, have been collaborating since the late 1990s. Custom contract manufacturing covers the entire chain, starting with joint design and continuing through molding to production, painting, and storage of semi-finished parts.
Finnish company Planmed Oy manufactures mammography equipment and limb imaging devices for global distribution as part of the Planmeca Group. Arteknon designs the upholstery components for these devices, such as outer covers and handles. This collaboration, which has been ongoing for over 20 years, produces impressive quality.
The hospital environment sets strict quality requirements
Planmed’s technical buyer Tomi Ketopelto describes how parts that come into contact with the hospital environment and patients are carefully validated and tested in accordance with strict standards.
“In addition to this, one of the most important features is the visual appearance, and the durability of the products is also important,” Ketopelto emphasizes. “We are particularly pleased with the quality of the parts and the smooth and professional communication. Arteknolaiset are friendly and the service is always available.”
Contract manufacturing covers all stages
Custom manufacturing starts with joint planning. Planmed’s mechanical designers usually contact Artekno first to discuss possible options for new products. As the technical buyer, Ketopelto orders the necessary samples. Later in the production process, purchase orders are sent via the portal, after which Artekno confirms the delivery times.
“For example, customers purchasing mammography equipment often want very short delivery times, so thanks to our cooperation and Arteknon’s customized contract manufacturing, we can promise fast deliveries and guarantee consistent product quality,” Ketopelto praises.
Artekno is able to respond quickly to customer needs because it keeps a set quantity of semi-finished parts in stock, which are painted before shipment. Ketopelto also highlights the advantages of the Kangasala factory’s location: the reasonable driving distance from Planmed allows for quick visits or face-to-face meetings when necessary.
Planmed is satisfied with the cooperation and believes that joint activities will continue smoothly in the future, with no need for changes.
